Chelsea are closing in on one of the most significant defensive moves of the summer, with a deal for Crystal Palace centre-back Lacroix nearing completion at around £52 million ($69m), according to The Athletic.

The Frenchman is due to undergo his medical on Friday and, barring late drama, will sign a long-term contract that runs until 2032. That is not just a transfer; it is a statement of intent and a bet on a defender Chelsea believe can anchor their back line for the next decade.

From Palace pillar to Chelsea cornerstone

Lacroix has not arrived at this point by accident. Since June, he has sat near the top of Chelsea’s defensive shortlist, competing with names such as Como’s Jacobo Ramon. The London club eventually pushed their chips in on the Palace defender, convinced by his rapid rise over the past two Premier League seasons.

Those displays pushed him into the France squad for the 2026 World Cup, underlining his rise from promising Bundesliga recruit to fully fledged international.
