Real Madrid Pursues Rodri Hernández Transfer

Real Madrid have gone back on an earlier decision and are now actively pushing to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernández, according to The Athletic. Inside the Bernabéu offices, the mood is not tentative. The club are described as confident, even planning their upcoming season on the assumption that Rodri will be wearing white.

It marks a sharp turn from their original stance. Rodri, fresh from an outstanding World Cup, had been expected to sit down with City to discuss a contract extension. Those talks never truly caught fire. The Spaniard showed little appetite to prolong his deal, a hesitation that did not go unnoticed in Madrid.

While City waited for clarity, Real Madrid’s view shifted. Initial doubts about committing to such a move gave way to admiration as Rodri’s World Cup performances piled up. The midfielder’s authority, his calm in tight spaces, his control of tempo – all of it pushed Madrid back to the table they had once walked away from.

Now the timing suits them. With more than a month still to run in the transfer window, the conditions are in place for serious negotiations. Manchester City, entering a minor rebuild in the wake of Pep Guardiola’s departure, are likely to at least engage with Madrid over a potential deal.

City must decide what kind of reset this post-Guardiola era will be. Madrid, by contrast, appear to have already made theirs: they see Rodri as the next pillar of their midfield, and they are moving as if his arrival is only a matter of when, not if.
