Manchester United's Midfield Shake-Up: Mason Mount Offered to AC Milan

Manchester United’s midfield rebuild is starting to take shape – and it could claim a high‑profile casualty.

According to reports in Italy, United have proposed Mason Mount to AC Milan in a deal worth around €25 million (£21.5m), as the club look to raise funds and reshape Michael Carrick’s squad. At the same time, Amad Diallo, another name linked with Milan, has been firmly taken off the market.

Mount offered to Milan as United chase funds

United’s summer strategy is clear: overhaul the midfield and finance it through sales. A deal is already in place for Ederson Silva from Atalanta, and the club remain in the hunt for further reinforcements, with Matheus Fernandes still on their radar despite competition from Tottenham Hotspur.

The original plan had been to cash in on Manuel Ugarte, but that route has effectively been blocked by the serious knee injury he suffered at the World Cup. With that option gone, attention has turned to Mount.

Signed from Chelsea with big expectations, the 25-year-old has struggled to gain momentum at Old Trafford. Injuries have disrupted his rhythm, and under Carrick he now finds himself slipping down the pecking order. In a squad that is being aggressively reshaped, that is a dangerous place to be.

Milan Press report that United have offered Mount to AC Milan, and that head coach Ruben Amorim has given the “green light” to explore a deal. The publication states that an “exchange of information” is underway between the clubs, with United’s proposed valuation sitting at around €25m.

For Amorim, the move would represent a reunion. He has already worked with Mount at Old Trafford and, according to Milan Press, is open to making him part of what is being billed as a bold new Milan project.

Amad off limits as Carrick draws a line

While Mount’s future looks increasingly uncertain, another United attacker is going nowhere.

Amad Diallo, one of the standout performers under Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford, has also been linked with AC Milan in recent days. Italian reports have suggested the Ivorian winger could be part of the same market conversations that have brought Mount’s name into play.

Fabrizio Romano has moved quickly to shut that down. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he made United’s stance crystal clear: Amad is not for sale this summer.

Romano explained that Carrick has already communicated his position to the club hierarchy, and United “fully expect” Diallo to remain a key part of their plans for the new season. The message is blunt: any speculation tying Amad to Milan or elsewhere does not reflect the club’s intentions. They want him at Old Trafford.

So the picture is sharp at United. Mount, once a flagship signing, is now being floated to one of Europe’s giants as the club chase funds and flexibility. Amad, younger, ascending, and trusted by Carrick, is ring‑fenced.

One established name pushed towards the exit, one rising talent protected at all costs. United’s midfield rebuild is no longer theoretical; it’s being written in real time, and some big reputations are already feeling the impact.
