Manchester United and Arsenal Target Alex Scott as City Eye Gusto

The Premier League’s heavyweights are already moving their pieces. The window is young, but the money being discussed is anything but tentative.

At Bournemouth, Alex Scott has become the latest midfielder to sit at the centre of a tug-of-war. Manchester United and Arsenal are both tracking the 22-year-old, according to The Daily Mail, with United viewing him as part of a midfield reshuffle that is expected to include the departure of Manuel Ugarte. Any conversation starts high: Bournemouth are thought to want around £60 million and are pushing to tie Scott down to a new contract after a standout season on the south coast.

Scott is not the only young talent drawing admiring glances from the champions.

City plan for life after Walker

Manchester City have turned their attention to Chelsea right back Malo Gusto. As reported by Nicolo Schira, City have shown concrete interest in the 23-year-old, who could be reunited with former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca once the Italian is confirmed as Pep Guardiola’s successor.

Gusto joined Chelsea for £30 million in January 2023 and has been earmarked as a long-term option in the position Kyle Walker has dominated for years. City, always planning a step ahead, see an opportunity to lock down their right flank for the next decade.

Liverpool, Newcastle and a new forward race

Higher up the pitch, Liverpool and Newcastle United are preparing for a battle of their own. The Daily Mail reports that both clubs are keen on Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo after his eye-catching Ligue 1 campaign, in which the 21-year-old directly contributed to 13 goals in 29 league games.

For Liverpool, Fernandez-Pardo is viewed as a more attainable alternative to RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who is rated at €120 million. For Newcastle, he represents another chance to get one over a direct rival after beating Liverpool to the signing of Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna for €40 million.

Newcastle’s recruitment drive does not stop there. They are also tracking FC Cologne winger Said El Mala, who has already been linked with Brighton and Brentford, as they look for a replacement for Anthony Gordon following his €70 million move to Barcelona. One star out, several targets in, and a clear attempt to reshape their attacking line.

Villa test West Ham’s resolve over Bowen

Aston Villa, buoyed by recent progress under Unai Emery, are aiming high again. The Athletic reports that Villa are keen on West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen, a player Emery greatly admires. West Ham, focused on winning promotion back to the Premier League, would prefer to keep their talisman, but proposals in the region of £50 million could force a serious conversation.

At the same time, Villa are drawing a line in the sand over one of their own. According to Sky Sports, they have told Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain that attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers is not for sale this summer. One door slightly open, another firmly slammed shut.

Real Madrid turn to Enzo Fernández

In Spain, Real Madrid’s search for another marquee signing has moved from the wings to the middle of the pitch. AS reports that Madrid have shifted focus to Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández after accepting that a move for Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise is highly unlikely.

Fernández, 25, is understood to be keen on a new chapter and has expressed a desire to live in Madrid, but Chelsea’s stance is clear: it will take a fee in excess of €130 million to prise him away. Madrid know this territory well. The question is whether they are prepared to go there again.

Chelsea close on Palestra as Álvarez pushes to move

Chelsea’s own rebuild continues at pace. ESPN sources indicate that the club are closing in on a deal worth around €55 million for Atlanta full back Marco Palestra. Talks are progressing well, with an agreement expected soon, though the final fee is still being negotiated.

Palestra, 21, was named Serie A’s defender of the year after an impressive season-long loan at Cagliari, where he made 37 appearances. Inter Milan had been in discussions to sign him, but Chelsea have moved ahead in the race, intent on refreshing their defensive options with one of Italy’s most highly rated young defenders.

Elsewhere in LaLiga, the future of Julián Álvarez remains one of the summer’s most intriguing storylines. The Atlético Madrid striker told ESPN he wants to leave this summer, with Europe’s elite already circling. Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal have all been credited with interest, while Real Madrid saw a €150 million bid rejected last month. When a player of Álvarez’s calibre declares his intention so clearly, the market tends to erupt.

Record-breaking move in the women’s game

The women’s game has delivered its own headline transfer. Sweden forward Felicia Schröder has completed a major move from BK Häcken to Real Madrid. Häcken and Schröder’s agent, Linus Gunnarsson, described it as the “biggest transfer” in women’s football history, though they declined to reveal the fee or confirm whether it set a new record. Even without the numbers, the message is unmistakable: Real Madrid are serious about building a powerhouse on the women’s side as well.

Around Europe: Balogun, Gakpo, Dybala and more

Across the continent, several other sagas are beginning to take shape:

  • AS Monaco and USMNT striker Folarin Balogun is expected to leave the Ligue 1 club this summer, with Premier League sides monitoring the situation, according to The Athletic.
  • Liverpool will only consider selling Cody Gakpo if a significant offer arrives, reports Football Insider, after the winger was recently linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
  • Roma want to tie Paulo Dybala down to a new contract extension as soon as possible, says Corriere dello Sport.
  • Mundo Deportivo reports that Real Madrid remain interested in Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, despite the ankle injury that is set to sideline him for around two months.
  • Barcelona are preparing a new €150 million offer for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, claims El Chiringuito, as they try to muscle into the same race that has already seen Real Madrid knocked back.
  • Arsenal have opened talks to sign 16-year-old Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga, according to The Athletic, as they continue to stockpile elite youth talent.
  • Tottenham Hotspur are keeping an eye on Como attacking midfielder Nico Paz, TEAMtalk reports, with the youngster also linked with a €9 million return to Real Madrid.
  • Juventus are in discussions with Paris Saint-Germain over striker Randal Kolo Muani, says Gazzetta dello Sport, in a move that would reshape their forward line.
  • Roma have dismissed Chelsea’s interest in full back Wesley Franca, according to Fabrizio Romano, making clear he will not be leaving the Italian capital.

Money is moving, plans are hardening, and the market’s first big dominoes are starting to wobble. The only question now is which club blinks first.
