Manchester City Gazump Arsenal in Bouaddi Chase

Manchester City have stepped into Arsenal’s path again.

Having already beaten the Gunners to Leicester teenager Jeremy Monga in recent days, City are now pushing hard to sign Lille prodigy Ayyoub Bouaddi, according to The Athletic.

Arsenal have tracked the 18-year-old Morocco international throughout the World Cup and were prepared to take a long view: secure the deal, then loan him back to Lille for another season of development. City are thinking very differently. They want Bouaddi in Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad immediately.

If City get their way, Arsenal will see another highly rated teenager slip through their fingers – this time to their biggest domestic rival.

Arsenal’s scouting mission heads to the World Cup semi-finals

While the Bouaddi battle rumbles on, Arsenal’s recruitment team will have eyes all over tonight’s World Cup semi-final between France and Spain.

Several reported targets could feature.

For France, Manu Kone and Bradley Barcola are both in contention for minutes. Aurelien Tchouameni’s return from injury and the rise of Desire Doue on the left mean the pair are expected to start on the bench, but their impact roles will still be closely watched.

On the Spain side, Nico Williams is another name on Arsenal’s list. He, too, is likely to be used from the bench as he continues to build fitness, with Alex Baena impressing on the opposite flank to Lamine Yamal.

Scouts from across the Premier League are expected in attendance, but Arsenal’s interest in three of the players on show gives this semi-final an extra layer of intrigue from a North London perspective.

Rogers price soars after Tielemans exit

If Arsenal want Morgan Rogers, they will have to pay elite money.

Aston Villa have slapped a £130 million price tag on the England international, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Midlands club remain determined to keep him despite persistent Arsenal interest.

Rogers is viewed inside the Emirates as a priority attacking target. Yet Manchester United’s capture of Youri Tielemans from Villa has hardened Unai Emery’s stance. Losing one key player is difficult; losing two in the same window is a different conversation entirely.

At £130m, any deal for Rogers would sit among the biggest transfers of the summer and would reshape Arsenal’s budget in one stroke.

£190m clear-out on the table

To make such moves possible, Arsenal are weighing up a significant summer clear-out.

Football.london report that the club could raise close to £190m in sales as sporting director Andrea Berta looks to remodel Mikel Arteta’s squad.

The list of potential departures is striking.

  • Gabriel Martinelli
  • Ethan Nwaneri
  • Ben White
  • Leandro Trossard
  • Gabriel Jesus
  • Fabio Vieira
  • Christian Norgaard
  • Kepa Arrizabalaga
  • Reiss Nelson

Indicative fees paint the scale of the possible overhaul:

  • Martinelli: £40m–£50m
  • Nwaneri: £30m–£40m
  • White: £20m–£30m
  • Trossard: £15m–£20m
  • Jesus: £10m–£15m
  • Vieira: £10m–£15m
  • Norgaard: £5m–£10m
  • Kepa: around £5m
  • Nelson: under £5m

Deals at the top end of those valuations would push Arsenal close to £190m in income – enough to seriously fund pursuits of the likes of Rogers and Barcola.

Waddle questions Guimaraes pursuit

Not everyone is convinced by Arsenal’s midfield priorities.

Chris Waddle, speaking to 10bet, admitted he is surprised by the club’s reported interest in Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes.

“I don’t get Arsenal. They’ve got a big squad as it is, and I just don’t understand why they keep getting linked with these players,” he said.

“He’s nearly 30 and he’s going to want at least a four-year contract… You don’t want to pay £50m, £60m or £70m for someone you’re not going to get anything back on.

“There will be clubs interested if the price is right… It will be interesting to see what happens.”

His comments land at a time when Guimaraes’ name sits near the top of Arsenal’s list – and when his situation at Newcastle is under intense scrutiny.

Alvarez chase meets a hard ceiling

Julian Alvarez’s World Cup heroics have only sharpened attention on his future.

The Atletico Madrid striker scored a stunning extra-time winner against Switzerland to send Argentina into the semi-finals, and The Independent report that Arsenal are trying to push through a deal before pre-season.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have both been linked, but Atletico are reluctant to sell to domestic rivals, which offers Arsenal a window of opportunity. The Gunners are hoping to keep any fee below £90m. Atletico want more than £100m.

Other reports paint an even bleaker picture for Arsenal. Atletico are said to have already turned down a €150m bid from Real Madrid earlier in the window, while the player is thought to favour a move to Barcelona.

Put simply: it would take a record-breaking bid and a change of heart from Alvarez to drag him to the Emirates. Right now, that move looks close to impossible.

Ferran Torres back on the radar

Another forward option could emerge from Barcelona.

With one year left on his deal, Ferran Torres’ future at Camp Nou is under review. Extending his contract would trigger an additional £6.8m payment to Manchester City due to a clause in the original sale – a complication Barcelona would rather avoid.

That stance has alerted Arsenal, Tottenham and PSG. For PSG, much depends on Bradley Barcola’s future. For Arsenal, Torres offers a versatile attacking profile and top-level experience at a potentially reduced price.

Double deal talk: Rogers and Guimaraes

Arsenal’s ambition in this window is underlined by reports of a blockbuster double move.

It is now believed that personal terms have been agreed with both Morgan Rogers and Bruno Guimaraes. The hard part comes next. Arsenal still need to reach agreements with Aston Villa and Newcastle, and any combined package is expected to exceed £200m.

That kind of outlay would transform Arteta’s starting XI and wage bill in one sweep – and would demand serious outgoing business to balance the books.

Italian eyes on Martinelli

While Arsenal look to bring in attacking firepower, one of their current forwards is attracting interest of his own.

Gabriel Martinelli’s cameos for Brazil at the World Cup have caught the attention of Roma and Juventus. Both Italian clubs are weighing moves for the winger, with Arsenal reportedly open to letting him leave at the right price.

For a player once seen as a cornerstone of the club’s future, that shift says plenty about how ruthlessly Berta and Arteta are prepared to reshape the squad.

Young Arteta steps into the spotlight

There is also a new Arteta on the training pitches at London Colney.

Gabriel Arteta, the 17-year-old eldest son of Mikel, has signed scholarship terms with Arsenal and is now training with the Under-21s.

A winger by trade, he first appeared as an unused substitute for the Under-18s against Ipswich Town in February, then made his U18s debut off the bench against Reading in April. He had already featured for the Under-17s in October, facing Watford in the Premier League Cup.

Given his age, Gabriel is now eligible for his first professional contract should the club decide he is ready. The surname will draw attention; his performances will have to do the rest.

Academy out, Magpies in

One academy prospect is heading out the door.

Newcastle have agreed a deal to sign Kyran Thompson from Arsenal’s youth ranks, with Fabrizio Romano delivering his trademark “here we go” confirmation. The move will see Thompson head to the North East as Newcastle continue to invest aggressively in young talent.

Guimaraes saga ignites

The Bruno Guimaraes story has become one of the window’s most combustible threads.

Former Newcastle chief Mehrdad Ghodoussi has angrily rejected claims that his wife and ex-co-owner Amanda Staveley misled Arsenal by suggesting Guimaraes could be available for £50m this summer.

The Telegraph reported that the previous regime had told the midfielder he could leave for “around £50m” if Newcastle failed to reach the Champions League. Ghodoussi took to X to brand that “utter nonsense”.

At the same time, former scout Bryan King, who has worked for Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa, has suggested to Football Insider that if Guimaraes has indeed asked to leave, it points to him being “tapped up” by another club.

“He’s the idol of the Geordies, he’s the idol of Newcastle United, he’s the captain of the football club, and all of a sudden he wants to leave,” King said, before arguing that only a higher-status Premier League side or a top European club could realistically be behind such a shift.

The financial side is just as thorny. Reports indicate Guimaraes is seeking wages in the region of £300,000 per week to move to North London, after Newcastle’s offer of £250,000 per week on a new deal. For Arsenal, that demand could be a major stumbling block.

Wright weighs in on Haaland row

Away from transfers, Ian Wright has taken aim at Alf-Inge Haaland’s comments after Norway’s World Cup exit.

The former Manchester City midfielder criticised the referee on X while congratulating Jude Bellingham, prompting Wright to call it “a bit of a low blow” and “sour grapes”.

Even in a summer dominated by deals and rumours, the debate around officiating and player reaction refuses to quieten.

Tzolis wants Arsenal

One winger has made his intentions clear.

Borussia Dortmund have asked Club Brugge about Christos Tzolis, but reports suggest the highly rated wide man has told his club he is not interested in that move. He is said to be willing to leave only for North London – specifically, to join Premier League champions Arsenal.

If Brugge decide to cash in, Arsenal will start from a position of strength.

United complicate Rogers pursuit

Manchester United’s business keeps brushing up against Arsenal’s plans.

Their agreement to sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa has already made Emery’s side more resistant to further exits. That stance directly affects Arsenal’s pursuit of Morgan Rogers, with Villa now expected to play hardball over any sale of their England attacker.

For Arsenal, every passing day nudges the price and the difficulty higher.

Kone battle looms

One more midfield name is climbing towards the top of shortlists.

France’s Manu Kone has impressed at the World Cup, and his club, Roma, are under pressure to sell. Gian Piero Gasperini has admitted the club must balance the books and hinted that Champions League qualification might not be enough to avoid departures.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Manchester United are in the race for Kone, while L’Equipe state that Arsenal are also targeting the 23-year-old. Corriere dello Sport suggest he could be available for just under £47m.

A fee in that range would look modest compared to the numbers swirling around Guimaraes and Rogers – but with City circling Bouaddi and Villa and Newcastle digging in over their stars, Arsenal must decide quickly which midfield path defines their summer.
