Joshua Zirkzee’s Manchester United chapter is already edging towards its final pages. One year on from his £36.5 million move from Bologna, the Dutch forward has become one of the most talked‑about names of this transfer window – not for what he has done in England, but for what clubs believe he can still become elsewhere.

United are open to selling. Zirkzee is listening. The market has reacted.

Two unnamed Premier League rivals have tested the water, asking about his situation and what it would take to prise him away from Old Trafford. Ajax also knocked on the door, sounding out United’s stance as they reshaped their attack. That curiosity, though, has cooled. With Marcos Leonardo and Tolu Arokodare already through the door, the Eredivisie side are not expected to push for a deal.

The real pressure is coming from Italy.

Juventus have moved with intent, working on a loan agreement and, crucially, receiving what is described as a green light from Zirkzee for a return to Serie A. Yet the talent that persuaded United to invest heavily has not vanished. It flashed again in pre-season, when Zirkzee produced an excellent finish in a strong display against Rosenborg – a reminder, to anyone watching closely, of the touch and composure that once had scouts scribbling his name in bold.

That goal will not erase two difficult years in England. It might, however, prove a timely audition.
