Grimsby Town Sign Midfielder Cian Doyle from Bray Wanderers

Grimsby Town have dipped back into the Irish market, securing the signing of midfielder Cian Doyle from Bray Wanderers on a two-year deal.

The 21-year-old arrives for an undisclosed fee after emerging as one of the brighter prospects in the League of Ireland First Division. He leaves Bray having made 53 league appearances and scoring five times, a steady body of work that has clearly convinced Grimsby he is ready for the jump to English football.

Head coach David Artell did not hide his enthusiasm, describing Doyle as “a bright, energetic and young midfielder” and stressing the club’s belief that he has “a high ceiling”. That phrase matters. It signals a project signing, a player Grimsby expect to grow with them rather than simply plug a gap.

Doyle becomes the Mariners’ fifth addition of the summer window, a clear sign of intent from a club that finished seventh in League Two last season and want more. Artell has spoken repeatedly about raising standards; the recruitment drive backs that up.
