Deniz Undav Sets Deadline for VfB Stuttgart Contract Talks

Deniz Undav has set the clock ticking in Stuttgart.

The VfB striker, one of the standout attacking figures of the season, wants his future sorted before he boards a plane with Germany’s national team for the World Cup in two weeks. According to Bild, Undav has drawn a clear line in the sand: he expects clarity by Tuesday, June 2.

No agreement by then? Talks go on ice. Undav would pause negotiations to concentrate fully on the tournament in America, shutting out contract noise at the very moment the spotlight on him grows.

For Stuttgart, the timing is brutal but understandable. A prolific forward about to step onto the World Cup stage holds leverage. A strong tournament could push his value – and his salary expectations – even higher. The club hierarchy knows it. So does Undav.

Bild reports that VfB plan to table a fresh offer before the weekend. The current proposal already marks a significant upgrade: an annual salary in the region of €5.5 million to €6 million, up from his present €4.5 million, plus a €3 million signing-on fee just for putting pen to paper.

Impressive numbers. Not yet enough.

Undav has so far resisted, testing how far Stuttgart are willing to go to secure their key man on improved terms. For the Swabians, the calculation is delicate: reward the player who has become central to their ambitions, without blowing apart their wage structure.

The ultimatum sharpens every meeting, every phone call. There is no long summer to play with, no quiet back-and-forth once the World Cup begins. Either VfB move closer to Undav’s demands in the coming days, or the entire conversation gets pushed into an uncertain post-tournament landscape.

By Tuesday, they will know whether their main striker commits to the project now – or walks onto the World Cup stage with his club future left deliberately unresolved.
