Celtic Break Transfer Record to Sign Kasper Hogh for £11m

Celtic have torn up their own transfer history to land Kasper Hogh – and send a clear message about where they intend to go this season and beyond.

The Scottish champions have agreed a club-record package worth more than £11million with Bodo/Glimt for the Danish striker, with the fee set to eclipse the sum paid for Arne Engels two years ago. Hogh is expected in Glasgow in the coming days for a medical, and if there are no late complications he will sign a long-term contract at Parkhead.

This is not just another forward through the door. It is the board handing Martin O'Neill the most expensive signing in Celtic’s history and arming him with a frontman built for the biggest stages.

Hogh arrives with serious numbers behind him. At 25, he has already hit 54 goals and supplied 22 assists in 103 games for Bodo/Glimt, form that has made him one of the most feared finishers in Scandinavia. Standing 6ft 1in, he offers presence as well as productivity, a focal point who relishes the penalty box but can also link play.

His record in Europe is what truly jumps off the page. Last season he scored six times in the Champions League as Bodo/Glimt battled their way to the last 16. He found the net against Sturm Graz, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Sporting Lisbon, and produced a ruthless double against Manchester City. These are not padded stats against also-rans; they are goals against clubs who expect to be deep into the competition every year.

Now Celtic want that edge in their colours.

New-look £17m attack

The move for Hogh completes a rapid rebuild of Celtic’s attack. He will spearhead a £17m frontline alongside Camilo Duran, the £6m signing from Qarabag who also struck five times in the Champions League last season. Between them, they bring double-figure goals in Europe’s elite competition into the same dressing room.

For a club that has often spoken about not just reaching the Champions League but belonging there, those details matter. Hogh and Duran have already proved they can hurt heavyweight opposition under the brightest lights. Celtic are gambling that they can now do it in green and white.

The acceleration in business comes on the back of Daizen Maeda’s departure to Ipswich Town. His move has banked Celtic an initial £8m with a further £2m in potential add-ons, cash that has been swiftly recycled into a more powerful, more varied forward line.

Midfield and wide reinforcements targeted

The recruitment drive will not stop with Hogh. Celtic remain in talks with Bundesliga side Paderborn over a £4m deal for midfielder Mika Baur as O'Neill looks to refresh the engine room ahead of next month’s Champions League play-off.

On the flanks, Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan has been identified as another key target. With qualifying ties looming and domestic expectations unchanged, Celtic are pushing to have as many of these deals completed as possible before the European stakes rise again.

For now, though, the headline is clear. Celtic have just broken their transfer record to sign a striker who scores against the clubs they want to stand alongside. The money says they expect Kasper Hogh to help close that gap. The season will tell if they are right.
