In the middle of a World Cup he has waited his whole life to reach, the young Ivorian did something many players dodge at all costs: he met the transfer storm head-on.

Asked about mounting interest from Europe’s elite and what comes next after RB Leipzig, he didn’t hide, he didn’t spin. He simply confirmed what everyone suspected.

“I expect to leave, of course,” he admitted, making it clear that his future almost certainly lies away from the Bundesliga club that helped launch him onto the biggest stage.

There was no grand performance around it, no carefully curated social media message. In fact, there is no social media at all.

“I don’t have Instagram anymore. I don’t have TikTok as well, so I can’t see anything!” he said, a line that cuts sharply against the usual modern backdrop of cryptic posts and ‘likes’ treated as transfer clues. The noise is out there, but he has chosen not to hear it.

“I have an agent, he’s going to manage the rest,” he explained, drawing a clear line between his job and the off-pitch manoeuvring that will decide his next club. For now, he insists, only one thing truly matters.

“First of all I think, like I said, my dream is playing for my country, and to make history with my country. … The most important thing right now is the focus on the World Cup with my country.”

That refrain tells you where his head is. The World Cup as the priority, the shop window as a by-product.

Yet the heart has its own loyalties. Long before Leipzig, long before scouts and agents, there was a boy in love with a club he watched from afar.

“Paris Saint-Germain is a team I’ve loved since I was little,” he previously told French media. “I think my father was a PSG supporter. It’s a team I admire as a football fan.”

Those words will not go unnoticed in Paris or across the continent. A rising Ivorian talent, openly expecting to leave Leipzig, speaking fondly of PSG and standing at a World Cup with the world watching.

The next move is out of his hands now, just as he says. But with performances on the biggest stage and Europe’s giants circling, the real question is not whether he leaves, but which club wins the race for a player already thinking about the history he wants to write.
