Bellamy Out of Burnley Frame as Clarets Reset Search

Craig Bellamy will not be the man to lead Burnley back to the Premier League, with the Wales manager’s proposed move to Turf Moor collapsing, according to reports.

The former forward had already ruled out a switch to Celtic, making it clear he would not walk away from the national team for the Scottish giants. Burnley, though, looked different. Recently relegated, familiar surroundings, and a club he knew from the inside. This was a job he appeared willing to consider.

That door has now closed.

Sky Sports News report that Burnley have cooled their interest and moved on to other candidates, with Steve Cooper and Rob Edwards among the names under discussion. Edwards is available after his recent dismissal by Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Cooper remains a prominent figure in the market after his own Premier League experience.

Bellamy’s links to Burnley ran deeper than speculation. He served as assistant to Vincent Kompany during the Belgian’s tenure, part of the backroom team that helped the club surge out of the Championship before suffering an immediate drop back down. Kompany’s departure for Bayern Munich left a vacancy many thought Bellamy was well placed to fill.

Burnley’s hierarchy see it differently. The search now widens, and the profile of the next manager carries real weight. The club have bounced between the Premier League and Championship since the 2021/22 season, never quite settling, never quite convincing that they belong firmly in one tier or the other.

This appointment has to change that.
