Bay FC Secures Kennedy Fuller in Bold NWSL Move
BAY FC have made one of the boldest moves of the NWSL season, landing highly rated midfielder Kennedy Fuller from Angel City FC in a deal that underlines just how serious the expansion side is about fast‑tracking its project.
The club confirmed the transfer on Wednesday, securing Fuller and an international roster spot for the remainder of the 2026 campaign in exchange for $500,000 in intra-league transfer funds and $20,000 in allocation money. The U.S. U-20 international will link up with Bay FC after the June international window.
This is not a speculative punt on potential. It’s a statement.
Bay FC go big for a creator
For a club still carving out its identity, investing heavily in a 19-year-old playmaker with proven NWSL production sends a clear message about the style they want to play. Fuller arrives from Angel City after a strong start to 2026: two goals, two assists, and appearances in all 11 matches before the league’s June break.
Her numbers from 2025 tell an even clearer story. Fuller finished in the top 10 across the league for chances created (36) and took home Week 24 Player of the Week honors, establishing herself as one of the NWSL’s most inventive young attacking midfielders.
Head coach Emma Coates made no attempt to downplay the significance of the signing, calling Fuller “an exciting player and a fantastic addition,” and highlighting her creativity and quality on the ball as key pieces for Bay FC’s attack. For a team still building chemistry and identity, adding a player who can dictate tempo and unlock defenses is exactly the kind of move that can tilt tight games.
The financial outlay backs that up. Intra-league transfer fees of this size are reserved for players expected to shape a club’s core for years, not just provide short-term depth.
From teenage prodigy to centerpiece
Fuller’s rise has been rapid but far from accidental. The Southlake, Texas native turned professional at just 16, making her debut in March 2024 after becoming only the eighth player ever signed under the NWSL’s Under-18 Entry Mechanism.
She didn’t just survive the jump. She thrived.
At Angel City, Fuller developed into one of the league’s most watchable young midfielders, a player as comfortable threading passes between lines as she is arriving late in the box. That blend of vision and end product has made her a constant talking point among scouts and coaches around the league.
Now Bay FC are betting that the next leap in her development will happen in San Jose.
Fuller herself made it clear she sees the move as a chance to stretch her game. She spoke of being “incredibly excited” to join Bay FC and emphasized the club’s environment as one where players are pushed to grow and reach their potential. For a teenager already carrying U.S. youth national team expectations, the promise of that kind of platform matters.
A youth international with a winning habit
On the international stage, Fuller’s résumé is already stacked with medals and accolades.
She has been a fixture in the United States youth setup since 2022, most recently lining up for the U-20s in June alongside future Bay FC teammate Onyeka Gamero. Her performances have drawn national attention: she was one of three finalists for U.S. Soccer’s 2024 Young Player of the Year, a nod that places her firmly among the elite of her age group.
The track record goes beyond individual recognition. Fuller helped the U.S. U-15s lift the Concacaf Women’s U-15 Championship in 2022, claiming the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player. Two years later, she added more silverware with the U-17s, winning gold at the 2024 Concacaf Women’s U-17 Championship and bronze at the 2024 U-17 World Cup.
Across those two 2024 tournaments, she scored 12 goals. For a midfielder, those numbers jump off the page.
That winning background matters for a club still in its infancy. Bay FC are not just adding a playmaker; they’re adding someone who has grown up in environments where trophies are the expectation, not the surprise.
A deal that shapes Bay FC’s trajectory
For Bay FC, this move does more than fill a roster slot. It sharpens their identity.
Coates now has a young, attack-minded midfielder with league experience, international pedigree, and room to grow into a franchise cornerstone. Fuller, for her part, walks into a club eager to hand her responsibility and minutes, in front of a fan base hungry for a star they can grow with.
She talked about connecting with those fans and helping the team compete for championships. That’s ambitious language for a player not yet out of her teens, but it fits the scale of the deal and the direction of the club.
Bay FC wanted a creative hub and a long-term pillar. They’ve just paid to make Kennedy Fuller exactly that.
