On the other: Vinicius Jr, a Real Madrid superstar whose very mention in connection with the Emirates signals how aggressively Arsenal intend to defend their Premier League crown.

Barcola race heats up – with Liverpool in the lead

Arsenal have tracked Barcola closely, sending scouts to monitor the 23-year-old France international as they map out the next phase of Mikel Arteta’s attack. He is one of several forwards under consideration, but the Gunners are no longer circling alone.

Liverpool have stepped forward. Reports in France state the Merseyside club are in active talks with PSG over a deal, and for now they are widely viewed as frontrunners. The problem is the price.
