At the centre of the frenzy was a single, striking piece: a black, one-of-one Kaboom rookie card from Panini’s 2023-24 Donruss FIFA collection. Just one exists. One parallel, one copy, one chance for collectors to own it. When the bidding finally stopped, it had soared to an astonishing $707,600.

That figure is now the highest publicly recorded price ever paid for a Yamal trading card. It is not just a record; it is a statement about where the market believes football’s newest World Cup winner is heading.

The scale of it becomes clearer when set against the company he left behind in the same auction. A graded 1958 Pele rookie card – the kind of vintage treasure that usually sits untouched at the top of any catalogue – reached $610,000. A unique Lionel Messi card from the 2023-24 Topps Chrome Sapphire collection climbed to $317,200.

Impressive numbers, both. Neither came close.

Yamal’s black Kaboom cleared the Pele lot by almost $100,000 and left the one-of-one Messi card trailing by a remarkable $390,400. On a night packed with football royalty, the teenager did not just join the pantheon; his card price raced past it.

The appetite for Yamal memorabilia did not stop with that headline piece. Collectors pushed hard for other slices of his emerging story. A gold Kaboom rookie, numbered eight out of 10, drew fierce interest and eventually went for $189,100, underlining how even his limited parallels are already treated as blue-chip assets.

On the match-worn side, the market spoke just as loudly. An inscribed Barcelona home shirt, worn by Yamal during the 2023-24 Champions League campaign, added another $152,500 to his tally. A teenager’s jersey, from the early pages of his career, now priced in the same bracket as established greats.

Taken together, those three lots – the black one-of-one Kaboom, the gold Kaboom /10, and the Champions League shirt – generated a staggering $1,049,200.

For an auction house, it was a spectacular haul. For collectors, a scramble to secure a piece of what they clearly believe is a once-in-a-generation rise. And for Yamal, still at the dawn of his career, it raises a sharp question: if his rookie pieces are already outpacing Pele and Messi, where does the market go when the trophies and records really start to pile up?
