Arsenal turn up the heat

The club are preparing a £70million bid for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes after agreeing personal terms, a move that would drop one of Europe’s most complete midfielders into Mikel Arteta’s engine room.

That is only one strand of an aggressive push. Arsenal have joined the race for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, monitoring a situation that has suddenly become more complicated for Paris Saint-Germain. They are also keen on defensive reinforcements, with Ezri Konsa, John Stones and Jacobo Ramon all on the radar, while the London club remain heavily linked with Julian Alvarez, Bradley Barcola and Marcus Rashford.

The most intriguing angle surrounds Alvarez. Arsenal are considering using Viktor Gyokeres in a swap deal for the Argentine striker, according to reports. Diomande chase opens up

For Diomande, the race is no longer a procession. The Leipzig winger is understood to have his heart set on a move to PSG this summer and is believed to have an agreement over personal terms. The problem for the French and European champions is simple: they have not yet tabled the €120m (£102m) bid Leipzig want.

That hesitation has cracked the door open. Bild report that Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City have all been given fresh encouragement as PSG stall. One decisive offer could flip the entire picture.

Liverpool, already tracking Barcola and Rayan, have moved for Maghnes Akliouche as they reshape their attacking options. If PSG keep dithering, Diomande could quickly slide from “expected” in Paris to “available” to the rest of Europe’s elite.

Chelsea keep reshaping

At Stamford Bridge, the churn continues. Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, a £52m deal that has already seen the France international complete a medical in London. Off the pitch, there is a significant addition too. Austin MacPhee has left Aston Villa and is set to join Chelsea as a set-piece specialist. Villa scored 29 goals from set plays under his guidance last season. Those numbers alone explain why he is in demand, with clubs in Saudi Arabia also interested before Chelsea moved to secure him.

United draw a line around their captain

At Old Trafford, one decision has been made with absolute clarity. Manchester United are not looking to sell Bruno Fernandes this summer.

The captain is into the final 12 months of his contract, though the club hold an option to extend for a further year, and he was linked with a surprise move to Galatasaray this week. In Italy, Inter Milan are pushing hard for Cristian Romero. The Nerazzurri have made contact with the defender’s camp and, according to reports, are ready to offer around £34m. The player is open to the move, and his agent has already travelled to Milan to try to drive the deal over the line.

For Tottenham, who are eyeing Andreas Schjelderup and Rafael Leao while Romero prepares for a possible exit, the outcome of those talks could shape Ange Postecoglou’s entire defensive rebuild.
