Mason Greenwood Rejects Saudi Offers, Eyes Move from Marseille
Mason Greenwood has turned his back on Saudi Arabia – but not on a move away from Olympique de Marseille.
The 24-year-old forward, as reported by Sacha Tavolieri, has rejected substantial offers from Al Ahli, Al Qadsiah and Al Diriyah this summer. The money was there, the guarantees were there, but Greenwood has chosen a different path for the next stage of his career.
What is not in doubt is that his time in the South of France is drawing to a close. After two seasons at OM, local outlet La Provence report that Greenwood has already handed back the keys to his house in Aix, a small but telling gesture that underlines the direction of travel. He is leaving.
Fenerbahce step forward, Roma wait in the wings
The clearest route out currently runs through Istanbul. According to L’Équipe, Greenwood has reached an agreement on personal terms with Fenerbahce. Salary, contract length, the framework of his role – all reportedly settled between player and club.
One problem: Fenerbahce still have to convince Marseille.
OM value Greenwood at around €50m, a figure that sets the tone for any negotiation and explains why talks are far from straightforward. The Turkish side have yet to strike a deal with Les Phocéens, and until that happens, any personal agreement remains a plan rather than a plane ticket.
Italy offers another escape route. AS Roma are interested and Greenwood is understood to be keen on a move to the Italian capital. The idea of the Stadio Olimpico, Serie A, and a fresh start in one of Europe’s great football cities clearly appeals.
But Roma, like Fenerbahce, have not found common ground with Marseille over the fee. Interest is real, the player is open, yet the numbers still block the door.
So Greenwood stands at a familiar modern crossroads: lucrative offers turned down, preferred destinations identified, a selling club holding firm at €50m. The house in Aix is empty. The question now is which city becomes home next.
