United’s U-turn?

Manchester United executives have invited Rashford to be part of the upcoming fly-on-the-wall series, All or Nothing – Manchester United, a move that cuts against the narrative of an inevitable exit and hints at a possible U-turn over his future at Old Trafford.

This is not a minor detail. Rashford has not played a competitive minute for United since December 2024. Under the new regime, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was widely expected to move him on, eager to trim the wage bill and reset the squad.

Yet the same hierarchy now wants him on screen, embedded in a project designed to showcase the club’s inner workings and its key figures. That invitation does not happen by accident.

For now, Rashford has not given an answer. Those close to the situation say he is still weighing up his next step, fresh from a season spent away from Manchester and a World Cup campaign with England. But the very fact United are asking the question suggests they are prepared, at the very least, to keep him in their plans as Michael Carrick builds towards the new season.

From hometown hero to outcast

At 28, he should be in his prime. Instead, his career sits in limbo, with “several clubs” monitoring the situation but no deal agreed. He will report back to United after his post-World Cup break, walking back into a dressing room and training ground he once dominated, but now as a question mark rather than a certainty.

That “openness” now extends to one of the most delicate sagas at the club. Including Rashford would mean placing one of the summer’s biggest storylines at the heart of the show: the local hero who asked to leave, was pushed aside, and now might be pulled back in.

A career at a crossroads

For Rashford, the decision to accept or decline the invitation is more than a media choice. It is a signal.

Say yes, and he steps back into the spotlight at Old Trafford, his every move tracked as he tries to rebuild a fractured relationship with the club and its supporters. Say no, and the distance between player and institution widens, reinforcing the idea that his future lies elsewhere.

United, for their part, appear to be leaving the door ajar. What started as a clear-out under Ratcliffe now looks more nuanced. A player once earmarked for sale is suddenly being considered as part of the club’s most high-profile narrative project in years.

The cameras are ready. The storyline is obvious. The only thing missing is Rashford’s decision – and with it, the answer to a question that has hovered over Old Trafford for months: is this the end of his United chapter, or the start of an unexpected revival?
