Manchester United Pursues 45-Goal Teen Striker Blake Henry

Manchester United’s academy rebuild is gathering pace – and this time the focus is on a 14-year-old who has spent the season scoring at a rate that turns heads across the country.

United are in talks to sign Derby County forward Blake Henry, the England Under-15 striker who hit 45 goals in all competitions last season. At any age, that number stands out. At 14, it demands attention from the biggest clubs in the land.

Henry is expected to leave Derby this summer, with United currently leading the chase for his signature. Manchester City have also shown interest, but it is United who are pushing hardest as they look to restock their youth ranks with elite attacking talent.

What makes Henry’s rise more striking is where he has been doing it. Still only 14, he stepped up to feature in the U18 Premier League this season, becoming one of the youngest players to appear in the competition just weeks after his birthday. His involvement at that level was brief – 24 minutes across a couple of games – yet his output across all age groups for Derby was relentless, underlining why he is viewed as one of the most exciting young forwards in the country.

If the move goes through, Derby will be entitled to compensation. The figure will not be plucked from thin air. It will be calculated based on Henry’s age, how long he has been in Derby’s academy, the category status of the club signing him, and the costs invested in his development and training.

The ideal scenario for all parties is clear: Derby and United agree a fee between themselves. If they cannot, the case will be referred to a Professional Football Compensation Committee tribunal, which will decide the final amount.

United’s interest in Henry fits a wider pattern. This summer, they have been actively assessing leading prospects in rival academies, intent on strengthening the next generation at Carrington as seriously as the first team. In Blake Henry, they see a teenager already accustomed to playing above his age group – and to finding the net with ruthless regularity.
