Leah Davidson Joins Charlton Athletic as Title-Winning Midfielder
Charlton Athletic have moved to strengthen the heart of their midfield with the signing of Australia international Leah Davidson from A-League Women’s side Melbourne City on a two-year deal.
The 25-year-old arrives in south London with a serious pedigree. Across six seasons in Australia, Davidson collected three straight league titles and passed the 100-appearance mark for Melbourne City after joining them from Brisbane Roar in 2020.
Her consistency at club level earned her recognition with the national team, and she now boasts four caps for Australia. That blend of experience and winning know-how is exactly what Charlton are banking on as they build for the new campaign.
Davidson becomes Charlton’s second new face of the week, following the capture of goalkeeper Anna Koivunen from Djurgardens IF, as the club quietly pieces together a spine built on international quality.
“I am so excited to be here and be a part of something so special,” Davidson said, reflecting on the move. She spoke warmly about her time at Melbourne City: “I spent six years at Melbourne City. I loved it, grew as a player and a person, but I thought: ‘I can’t say no to this opportunity.’”
Charlton have given her that opportunity. Now the question is how far this new-look core can push them.
