Barcelona’s search for a new No. 9 has taken them to England’s south coast, where a 20-year-old French striker is quietly pushing for the move of his life.

According to COPE journalist Helena Condis, AFC Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi wants to join FC Barcelona this summer. Not just open to it. He sees it as his dream move.

A rising option behind the main target

Inside Barcelona, the name at the top of the list remains clear: Julian Alvarez. The Argentine is the priority for the centre-forward role, and the club have been working on that front for weeks.

But football rarely follows a single track.

As talks over Alvarez drag on, Kroupi has emerged as one of the leading alternatives. Barcelona have already held exploratory conversations with both the player’s entourage and Bournemouth, testing the waters and gauging what it would take to bring him to the Spotify Camp Nou.

What they found is a player fully sold on the idea.

Kroupi, fresh from a breakout 2025/26 season in the Premier League, is described as “very excited” by the possibility of wearing the Blaugrana shirt. For him, Barcelona is not just a step up. It is the destination.

A debut season that turned heads

The numbers alone do not scream superstar: 13 goals in 35 matches in his first Premier League campaign with Bournemouth.

But context matters.

At 20, in a demanding league, Kroupi showed sharp movement, timing in the box, and a natural feel for goal that has attracted attention across Europe. Those 13 goals were enough to mark him out as one of the more intriguing young forwards in England, and they have clearly not gone unnoticed at Barcelona.

For a club trying to balance financial reality with the need for a long-term striking solution, a profile like Kroupi’s has obvious appeal: young, hungry, and already proving he can handle a top league.

There is, however, a problem. A big one.

Bournemouth dig in: “Untouchable” status and a giant price

Bournemouth have no interest in being the springboard for Kroupi’s dream.

Inside the club, the Frenchman is considered “untouchable” in their sporting project. They see him as a central piece, not a saleable asset, and they are acting like it.

To make that point crystal clear, the Premier League side have set a huge €130 million price tag on Kroupi. It is less a starting point for negotiations than a deterrent, a financial wall meant to scare off any suitors before talks even begin.

For Barcelona, already reluctant to go beyond €100 million for their main target Alvarez, that figure lands like a warning shot. If they will not cross that line for an established Argentina international, matching or exceeding it for a 20-year-old with one Premier League season behind him looks even more unlikely.

The message from Bournemouth is simple: if you want him, you will have to pay a fortune.

So the Catalan club wait.

Their efforts remain focused on unlocking the Alvarez deal with Atletico Madrid. The offer on the table for the Argentine international is not open-ended; it is set to expire at the end of this month. That deadline now shapes the rest of their planning.

If Atletico continue to hold firm and no breakthrough arrives, the spotlight could swing more sharply onto Kroupi. What is now an alternative could quickly become the main route.

But again, that wall of €130 million stands in the way.

For Hansi Flick and the sporting department, the equation is brutal: push for a young striker whose current club do not want to sell and whose price is set at a premium, or walk away and reshape the plan entirely.

Barcelona’s need for a centre-forward is obvious. So is Kroupi’s desire to answer that call.

The question is whether anyone at Camp Nou will be willing — or able — to pay the price that Bournemouth have so defiantly drawn in the sand.
