Camavinga at a Crossroads as Mourinho's Madrid Weigh €60m Sale

Real Madrid’s midfield, once the most settled department in European football, is bracing for a shake-up under Jose Mourinho – and Eduardo Camavinga suddenly finds himself right on the fault line.

The club are prepared to sanction at least one major sale in the middle of the park this summer as Mourinho looks to remodel the engine room in his own image. Inside Valdebebas, the name that keeps coming up is Camavinga’s.

He is 23 now, no longer the teenage prodigy who arrived with the promise of becoming Madrid’s next great all‑purpose midfielder. Another season has slipped by in which he never quite imposed himself as expected. The talent is still obvious, the flashes still there, but the step from important squad player to undisputed starter has not been taken.

That hasn’t scared off Europe’s elite. Quite the opposite.

PSG, United and Juventus circle

Paris Saint-Germain have long admired Camavinga and see the chance to bring him back to France as a rare market opportunity. The profile fits: young, technically secure, tactically flexible, and already battle‑hardened at the highest level.

Now Manchester United have joined the race. According to journalist Miguel Serrano, the Premier League club have formally expressed interest in signing the French international this summer, as they embark on yet another rebuild of a fractured midfield.

United have already said goodbye to Casemiro and are expected to move on from Manuel Ugarte as well. With the core being stripped out, they are scouring the continent for a new anchor and a new rhythm. Aurelien Tchouameni’s name has been discussed, but the reality of prising him away from Madrid is complex. Camavinga’s situation looks more fluid, and United have moved to understand it.

They have asked Madrid about the conditions for a deal – the fee, the role, the player’s stance. Juventus have done the same, the Italian giants sensing an opportunity if Madrid decide to cash in.

Madrid’s stance: open door, firm price

Inside the club, Camavinga is no longer seen as “untouchable”. That label is reserved for a very select few in Mourinho’s new Madrid, and the Frenchman is not on that list.

Madrid have set a price: €60 million. For a 23‑year‑old with his experience and upside, it is a figure designed not to scare off the richest clubs, but to test how serious they are. For United, PSG or Juventus, that number is unlikely to be prohibitive.

There is, however, one major obstacle.

Camavinga does not want to leave.

Despite a season in which he struggled for prominence and even slipped behind Thiago Pitarch in the pecking order at one stage, the midfielder remains determined to fight for his place at the Santiago Bernabeu. He believes he can still carve out a central role under Mourinho and is not entertaining the idea of walking away at the first sign of danger.

A fluid situation with one obvious candidate

For now, everything hinges on Madrid’s incoming business. Mourinho wants a fresh face in midfield, and if the club land their primary target, someone will have to make way. The squad is already heavy in that area, and Financial Fair Play realities add another layer of pressure.

If a new midfielder walks through the door, the logic inside the club points in one direction: Camavinga is the most expendable of the big names. Not because he lacks quality, but because his status is less entrenched, his market value is high, and his sale would be clean.

That is why United, PSG and Juventus are staying close, watching, waiting. They know €60 million will not be a stumbling block if Madrid finally decide to pull the trigger.

The question is whether Camavinga’s resolve to stay, and Mourinho’s assessment once pre-season starts, can shift that internal calculus – or whether the Bernabeu will soon watch one of its brightest young midfielders walk away just as his prime begins.
