Ancelotti's Strategy for Endrick Amid Neymar's Injury
Carlo Ancelotti has drawn a firm line under the growing calls to throw Endrick straight into Neymar’s role, insisting Brazil will not rush the teenager onto the World Cup stage.
Neymar is already out of Brazil’s opening stretch in Group C. He missed the 1-1 draw with Morocco and will sit out the next game against Haiti after suffering a Grade 2 strain in his right calf while playing for Santos on May 17. The medical staff have circled the knockout rounds as the realistic target for his return.
With the team’s star forward sidelined, the spotlight has inevitably swung to Endrick. The teenager has been widely billed as Brazil’s next great attacking talent, and his absence from the starting picture has raised eyebrows.
Ancelotti, though, is unmoved.
Asked in an interview why a player regarded as an “extraordinary talent” is not yet being used, the Brazil coach cut through the noise with a simple answer.
“Because I will put Endrick in at the right moment. We have to wait a little. He will be important.”
That short response carried a clear message. This is not a like-for-like swap, not a case of plugging the brightest young name into the biggest vacant role just because the opportunity exists. For Ancelotti, it is about timing.
The Italian made it clear that Endrick’s development is being managed on its own track, separate from Neymar’s injury. The teenager is not being held back because of doubts over his ability, but because his introduction is being carefully staged.
The key phrase lingered: Endrick “will be important”. In one line, Ancelotti both cooled the immediate clamour and underlined that the youngster remains central to Brazil’s plans.
While Neymar works towards a possible return in the knockouts, Brazil’s coaching staff are treating Endrick with similar patience. His role is being shaped by when and where he can have the greatest impact, not by the urgency created by a missing superstar.
For now, Ancelotti is standing firm. Even with Neymar unavailable, Brazil will wait before handing Endrick the bigger stage so many are already demanding.
