Manchester United Confirm Summer Departures of Sancho and Casemiro
Manchester United have begun a significant summer reset, confirming that Jadon Sancho and Casemiro are among six players who will leave Old Trafford as free agents at the end of their contracts.
Tyrell Malacia, Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey and Malachi Sharpe will also depart, as detailed in a club statement released on Wednesday morning.
The headline names tell their own story. Sancho, once the marquee attacking signing expected to light up the right flank, and Casemiro, the serial winner brought in to anchor the midfield, now both step away as United attempt to reshape an unbalanced squad.
Casemiro’s time in Manchester brought silverware and big‑game impact. The club highlighted his four seasons in red, during which he played 160 games and scored 26 goals. His towering header and commanding display in the 2023 Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United underlined why United moved for the Brazil national-team captain in the first place. He added the Emirates FA Cup in 2024, another medal on a career already heavy with honours.
Malacia’s spell at United has been defined as much by resilience as by appearances. The Dutch full-back arrived in 2022 and made 50 first-team appearances, but a run of unfortunate injuries repeatedly stalled his progress. He featured only three times this season, though he was part of the matchday squad when United lifted the Carabao Cup in 2023.
For Aljofree, Bailey and Sharpe, the announcement draws a line under their time in the club’s system, as United clear space in both the senior and development ranks.
Big names leaving. Pathways opening. United’s summer has only just begun, but this statement makes one thing clear: the rebuild is no longer theoretical. It is happening now.
