Content creator Willman says life has been “so surreal” since a video of her with braided hair went viral and the internet decided she was Erling Haaland’s double. One clip, a few angles, and suddenly millions were comparing her to Norway’s star striker.

“I never expected braiding my hair to turn into millions of people comparing me to Erling Haaland,” she told People, still sounding slightly stunned by the scale of it all.

The joke kept rolling, the memes piled up, and then came the moment that pushed it into another stratosphere: Haaland himself joined in.

“It’s been amazing to watch the internet have so much fun with it, and seeing Erling comment on my video made the whole thing feel even more unreal,” she said. For a creator used to guessing what might land online, this one hit differently. “As a creator, you never know what’s going to resonate, so I’m just grateful people have embraced it and had fun along the way.”

Now the online gag is stepping into the real world.

Willman is heading to Miami, Florida, to watch Haaland’s Norway face England in the World Cup quarter-final on Saturday (local time). Somewhere in the stands, the original and his viral “twin” could finally share the same backdrop.

Erling Haaland, speaking to the same publication, played along with the storyline. “It would be pretty funny if our paths crossed in real life after all of this,” he said. No promises, no grand set-up. Just a deadpan line that fits the surreal nature of the whole thing.

The joke doesn’t stop at a chance meeting, either. Willman is turning the resemblance into an event.

She is hosting an Erling Haaland lookalike contest in Miami on the day of the match, with the winner earning tickets to the quarter-final. On Instagram, she laid down the challenge to Norway fans who have heard the same comparison.

“If you have ever been told you look like Haaland and are a Norway fan, you’re in for a surprise!” she wrote. Partnering with @kalshi, she’s inviting fans to show up before the game, throw on their best Haaland impression, and compete for “2 FREE TICKETS TO THE GAME!”
