Arsenal Secure Leicester Teen Jeremy Monga Over Chelsea and Manchester United
Arsenal are closing in on one of the most coveted teenagers in the country, with Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga understood to have chosen the Premier League champions over Chelsea and Manchester United.
The 16-year-old has been on the radar of all three clubs during this summer window, his performances in Leicester’s youth ranks marking him out as a standout talent. Interest built quickly. So did the competition. But when it came to a decision, Monga’s preference was clear: Arsenal first, Chelsea and United in his wake.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Arsenal are now pushing to finalise an agreement after the player signalled he would accept a move to the Emirates. The London club, fresh from their title triumph, are intent on reinforcing the pathway of elite young talent feeding into Mikel Arteta’s squad, and Monga fits that strategy perfectly.
For Leicester, the timing is painful. The Foxes are braced for the possibility of losing one of their brightest prospects just as they deal with the fallout from relegation from the Championship. The drop has sharpened financial realities and made it harder to keep hold of emerging stars when England’s biggest clubs come calling.
There is, however, one crucial piece of leverage. Monga has already agreed a professional contract with Leicester, due to start when he turns 17 on July 10. That deal gives the club the right to command a transfer fee rather than lose him for a minimal sum, and any buying side will have to pay accordingly for a player viewed as a long-term investment.
Arsenal now move into the decisive phase of negotiations, confident of the player’s will and aware that rivals Chelsea and Manchester United have been left trailing in this particular chase. The question is no longer who Monga wants. It is how quickly the Premier League champions can get this one over the line.
