Arsenal's Julián Álvarez Interest Stalls Amidst Barcelona Negotiations
Arsenal may be the only realistic escape route on the table for Julián Álvarez this summer – but the striker is in no rush to walk through it.
According to The Sun, the Atletico Madrid forward has been earmarked as a prime target for the North London club as they search for a top-level No 9. Yet the Argentina international is not currently entertaining the idea of a move to the Premier League, leaving Arsenal’s interest parked on the hard shoulder.
Arsenal are not alone in the chase. Barcelona have already tested Atletico’s resolve with an opening offer of £86.4 million, a bid that was swiftly rejected by the Madrid club. Negotiations between the two LaLiga sides are described as being at a standstill, with neither prepared to blink first.
Inside the Metropolitano, there is little sense of panic. Diego Simeone’s side are said to be confident Álvarez will remain in the Spanish capital beyond this window, two years after his £81.5 million switch from Manchester City.
At 26, Álvarez sits at the peak of his value and his career, a forward with enough pedigree to tempt Europe’s elite and enough contract security for Atletico to dictate terms. Arsenal’s need is clear, Barcelona’s desire is obvious, but Atletico hold the cards – and, crucially, the player is not agitating to leave.
For now, the market moves around him. The bids, the rumours, the positioning. Álvarez stays put, and the question lingers: who will finally convince him to move, and at what price?
