The expansion of the World Cup to 48 teams has brought a complex set of moving pieces as the group stage wraps up. The tournament needs to trim the field down to 32 for the knockout phase. This means the top two teams from each of the 12 groups will advance, along with the eight best third-place finishers.
The positioning of those third-placed teams in the bracket depends heavily on results from other groups, creating a puzzle that’s tricky to solve. We’re tracking all the latest standings, results, and possible outcomes as the final group matches conclude.
