2026 FIFA World Cup Group E: Teams, Schedule, Standings, and Knockout Path

Group E Overview for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to unfold across North America with an expanded roster of 48 teams. Among them, four squads form Group E: Germany, Ecuador, Ivory Coast, and Curacao. These teams will compete in six matches hosted in cities like Philadelphia, Houston, and Toronto. Up to three teams from this group may advance to the knockout rounds.

Rules for Breaking Ties in the Group

If teams finish level on points after all group matches, FIFA applies these criteria to rank them:

  • Result between the tied teams
  • Goal difference in those matches
  • Goals scored in those matches
  • Overall goal difference
  • Overall goals scored
  • Team conduct score based on disciplinary records
  • FIFA ranking position if still tied

Advancement of Third-Place Teams

Eight of the twelve third-place teams from groups will also move into the Round of 32. Their ranking depends on points, goal difference, goals scored, team conduct score, and FIFA ranking.

Profiles of Group E Teams

Germany

Germany ranks among the most decorated World Cup nations with four titles but recently suffered early exits in 2018 and 2022. They rebounded by winning UEFA Group A in qualifying with five consecutive wins following an initial loss. Managed by Julian Nagelsmann since 2023, key players include Florian Wirtz, Joshua Kimmich, and Jamal Musiala. They sit 10th in FIFA’s world rankings.

Ecuador

Ecuador has grown steadily in South American soccer, securing their fifth World Cup berth since debuting in 2002. Finishing second in CONMEBOL qualifiers, they look strong under coach Sebastian Beccacece. Rising stars like Moises Caicedo and Willian Pacho combine with veterans such as Enner Valencia. Currently ranked 23rd worldwide.

Ivory Coast

After a 12-year absence, Ivory Coast returns riding the momentum of their 2023 AFCON triumph. Led by coach Emerse Fae and talents like Franck Kessie and Amad Diallo, the Elephants aim to make a mark in their fourth World Cup appearance. They hold the 34th spot in FIFA rankings.

Curacao

Curacao is the smallest nation ever to qualify for the World Cup, with a population under 200,000. The team benefits from players with Dutch roots who missed out on the Netherlands squad. Veteran coach Dick Advocaat, 78 years old, will be the oldest head coach at the tournament. Ranked 82nd globally.

Broadcast Information

In the United States, Fox will air the games in English, with streaming through Fubo that includes a free trial. Other countries have their own channels and streams including TSN and Amazon Prime in Canada, BBC and ITV in the UK, SBS in Australia, and yet to be confirmed providers in India.

Knockout Stage Path for Group E

The winner of Group E faces a third-place team from Groups A, B, C, D, or F in the Round of 32. The runner-up will meet the Group I runner-up. The third-place finisher’s next opponent depends on the final combination of advancing third-placed teams, with many possible scenarios.
